Hopefully this won’t end up jinxing the rest of the season for the Timbers, but I bought my USL-1 playoff package down at PGE Park today. With the Timbers in first place and with several games in hand, playoff games later this month are guaranteed. If Portland can finish the season atop the table there is a first round bye in the works.
Each round of the USL-1 playoffs involve home-and-home aggregate score matches, just like in the Champions League in Europe. So regardless of who the Timbers would play, one leg in each round will take place at PGE. Given the fact that Portland have only given up four goals at home all season, that certainly gives a huge advantage.
Only five games remain in the regular season for the Timbers, starting tonight with Rochester in town. One more away game (in Austin) followed by three home games to finish the season and then the playoffs begin in Portland’s penultimate season in USL-1.
