What We Saw – Volvo 1800 Series

Quite accidentally I happened upon a gathering of local Volvo drivers. They meet every fourth Sunday at one of several pubs in town and bring along their fantastic cars. There were several more than I captured, including a 122S, a 122S wagon and several 1980s era station wagons. But the cars that immediately drew my attention were the four 1800 series Volvos. Apologies for the crappy quality of image. It was getting dark, raining and on my cell phone. If I have the dates wrong (only one I’m certain of), please let me know:

1967 Volvo 1800S

1969 Volvo 1800S

1972 Volvo 1800E

1972 Volvo 1800ES

  1. Well, and now we know how to time visits to Portland, especially for certain relatives: 4th Sunday is a must!

  2. In German vintage car scenery the last shown – blue 1800 ES – is also called
‘Schneewittchensarg’ – which means ‘Snow White’s Coffin’
because of the large rear glass window. Wonder where the prince is hiding?

  3. PDXVolvos (Yahoogroups) is our local “round fendered” group which meets that last Sunday at 3PM to “solvo” the world’s problems one beer at a time. I am the Coffin owner pictured. Thanks for noticing our examples of what some feel is the only Volvo they bothered hiring a stylist for… DK

  4. On my bucket list to own one! If someone has one in good condition and is anywhere between Boston and Cape Cod, I’d love to know about it!

  5. The first one is not a 67S, it’s either a 71 or 72E, not a big deal, just lettin ya know =)
